All that is needed to fix this problem is to add a Term type field to replace Abbreviation, as follows:

where the Term type field allows all the necessary values for different types of terms, such as abbreviation, acronym, full form, spelling variant, and so forth.

Data elementarity means that there can only be one type of information in a database record or field. Separate fields are required for different types of information. For example, if you want to document the source of definitions, you need a dedicated field for that information; you should not merely append the source to the definition itself. A frequent violation of this principle is when two terms are included in one term field, such as an acronym and its expanded form:
